Accountant

The R.O.C.K. Church is seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Accountant to support the financial health and integrity of our ministry and its associated Strategic Business Units (SBUs), including educational institutions, nonprofit arms, media enterprises, real estate holdings, and hospitality services. This individual will work closely with the CFO to provide accurate financial reporting, ensure compliance with financial policies, and support long-term financial planning across all entities.

Chief of Operations

The Chief Operations Officer (COO) oversees and optimizes daily operations across all Strategic Business Units, ensuring financial stewardship, revenue sustainability, and operational excellence. The role provides executive leadership to align diverse domestic and international business units with the organization’s mission, values, and long-term strategic goals while maintaining high performance and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the CFO in managing the financial operations for The R.O.C.K. Church and all affiliated SBUs
  • Maintain accurate and timely financial reports: including general ledger entries, reconciliations, and journal entries
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for multiple entities
  • Assist in budget development and monitor departmental and project-level budgets
  • Track and allocate revenue and expenses across church departments and SBUs
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Prepare documentation for audits, grant reports, and financial reviews
  • Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, GAAP, and nonprofit regulatory requirements
  • Assist with cash flow projections and forecasting
  • Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing as needed
  • Collaborate with ministry and department leaders to provide financial insights and support decision-making
  • Continuously assess and improve internal accounting processes for efficiency and accuracy

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in nonprofit or church-based organizations
  • Experience managing budgets across multiple business units or entities
  • Strong understanding of fund accounting and nonprofit financial reporting
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a heart for ministry and service

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with grant funding and reporting
  • Familiarity with faith-based organizational structure and values
  • Knowledge of real estate, hospitality, or educational financial operations a plus

Working Environment:

This role operates in a fast-paced, mission-oriented environment with high levels of collaboration and accountability. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required during major church events or financial deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Operational Leadership & SBU Oversight

  • Provide direct oversight and strategic guidance to leaders of all SBUs.
  • Ensure operational consistency, efficiency, and accountability across units while respecting the distinct needs of each operation.
  • Align SBU operations with organizational mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
  • Build scalable systems, policies, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

2. Sales, Revenue & Growth Management

  • Develop and implement revenue and sales strategies for each SBU consistent with nonprofit values.
  • Monitor sales performance, analyze trends, and recommend corrective or growth actions.
  • Collaborate with SBU leaders to establish measurable revenue targets and performance plans.
  • Oversee fundraising, earned-income initiatives, and donor engagement where applicable.

3. Budgeting & Financial Oversight

  • Lead annual budgeting processes for all SBUs.
  • Monitor financial performance, including revenue, expenses, and cash flow.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
  • Ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
  • Provide regular financial reports, forecasts, and variance analyses to the CEO and Board.

4. Expense & Cost Control

  • Establish and enforce organization-wide expense control policies.
  • Review and approve major expenditures, vendor contracts, and service agreements.
  • Negotiate with vendors and suppliers to secure favorable terms.
  • Monitor operational spending and implement corrective actions as needed.

5. Inventory & Asset Management

  • Oversee inventory systems across food service, publishing, education, and construction SBUs.
  • Ensure accurate tracking, storage, replenishment, and loss prevention.
  • Conduct regular inventory audits and reconciliations.
  • Optimize inventory turnover and asset utilization.

6. Production, Program & Service Delivery

  • Coordinate production schedules for publishing, food operations, and construction projects.
  • Standardize workflows to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Monitor productivity metrics and resolve operational bottlenecks.
  • Ensure timely, reliable delivery of services and programs.

7. Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Establish and maintain quality standards across all SBUs (e.g., food safety, educational performance, construction standards).
  • Implement quality assurance and compliance monitoring systems.
  • Address service failures, customer complaints, and operational deficiencies.
  • Promote continuous improvement through training, evaluation, and process refinement.

8. Customer, Community & Stakeholder Relations

  • Develop customer service standards and training programs across SBUs.
  • Ensure high satisfaction among clients, students, donors, partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Facilitate communication between SBUs and the communities served.
  • Collect feedback and translate insights into operational improvements.

9. Executive Reporting & Strategic Advisory

  • Prepare comprehensive operational and performance reports for the CEO.
  • Track and report KPIs for each SBU.
  • Advise the CEO on operational risks, opportunities, and strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare materials and presentations for Board meetings and executive reviews.
  • Ensure transparency, accountability, and data-driven decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • Senior executive experience in operations, preferably within a nonprofit, social enterprise, or mission-driven organization.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple business units or complex operations.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Proven ability to lead diverse teams and implement scalable systems.
  • Experience with revenue-generating nonprofit models strongly preferred.
  • International operations or cross-cultural experience a plus.
